My Journey in Encaustic Art: A Passion for Texture, Depth, and History
“ I am deeply passionate about encaustic art, captivated by the rich textures, luminous depth, and hands-on process of layering wax to create pieces that evoke a sense of timeless beauty and powerful emotion.”
My love for encaustic art is rooted in its unique blend of history, texture, and versatility. Encaustic painting—a technique that combines beeswax, damar resin, and pigment—dates back to ancient Greece, and it has captivated artists for centuries with its luminous, layered effects. For me, encaustic art represents both a link to the past and a bridge to new forms of creative expression, blending the tactile beauty of wax with the vibrancy of color and texture.
Hosting encaustic workshops has been a way for me to share this passion with others. At the Helotes Art Gallery, my workshops have consistently sold out, bringing together artists from all levels who are eager to explore the limitless possibilities encaustic offers. There’s something magical about watching students discover the expressive potential of wax—how it fuses, layers, and transforms as they experiment. These workshops offer a supportive environment where creativity flourishes, and students leave with not only new skills but also a deeper appreciation for encaustic as an art form. Beyond teaching, I am continually exploring my own artistic journey. My encaustic works have been featured in international exhibitions, including a prestigious show in Ireland. This opportunity to share my work on a global scale has reinforced my belief in the universal language of encaustic art, where texture and depth speak to people from all cultures. I am also grateful to have received awards from several exhibitions, which has encouraged me to keep pushing the boundaries of this medium and to pursue my artistic vision with even more dedication.
Encaustic art is as much about the process as the outcome. Each piece invites a dialogue with the materials—whether it’s creating smooth, glassy surfaces, rough, textured areas, or embedding objects within the layers to add dimension. This dynamic process keeps me engaged, and I am excited to continue sharing this passion with others, whether through teaching, exhibiting, or simply inspiring others to see the endless creative possibilities encaustic has to offer.
